You're Crazy!

You're Crazy!

Now as he thus made his defense, Festus said with a loud voice, "Paul, you are beside yourself! Much learning is driving you mad!" But he said, "I am not mad, most noble Festus, but speak the words of truth and reason." Acts 26:24-25 (NKJV)

I remember back in 1985 having the Lord impress upon me to go and share the Gospel message while at the off-road races.  I had my sponsor and friend, Dick Hochreiter of Gear Racewear, make me a custom jersey.  On the front of the jersey were the words, "Powered by Jesus."  Well, I was excited and a bit nervous, but it was time to be bold in my faith, so off to the upper desert I went.

Suffice to say, I was given a mixture of responses to my new addition of apparel.  It appeared some could no longer see me.  I wasn't sure if the new material Dick had used in making my jersey had made me invisible or if simply having the name Jesus plastered upon my chest had caused them to be blind like Paul on the road to Damascus.  Others who greeted me looked at me with disgust and still others went out of their way to talk as filthy as possible.  I guess I was getting a lesson on what it meant sanctify the Lord in my heart and to be prepared to defend the Gospel.

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; 1Peter 3:15 (NKJV)

Some of my friends eventually came up and talked to me but they all thought I had gone too far - I had become right-wing crazy for God.  I think their response said a lot about the condition of their hearts.  I wasn't crazy for accepting Jesus payment for my sin.  I wasn't crazy for accepting Gods offer to have a relationship with Him either.  I would have been crazy had I not received these things.

Actually my decision was a reasonable one - one of a sound mind and understanding.  When you think about it - it is reasonable to give our life to the Lord and to live for Him.  It would be unreasonable and selfish not to.  It is reasonable for us to share what God has given to us with others.  Again, it would be unreasonable and selfish to do otherwise.

I give God all the glory for my being bold back then and now.  I thank Him for allowing me to be a part of His loving others through me.  I have made many mistakes along the way and I am sure I will probably fall short again, but I am more committed to living for God now than ever.

How about you, are you crazy for Christ?  Do you think it's reasonable to sacrifice what the world calls fun so others might be saved and experience eternal fulfillment?  Does this sound like craziness to you or do you think it's reasonable to allow God to transform your life by renewing your mind through the reading of His Word?

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.  And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1-2 (NKJV)

I want to encourage you today to keep your eyes on the Lord and the things of God.  Let's not allow the enemy distract us or conform us to the ways of this world.

STUDY QUESTION: According to 1Peter 3:15 what are we to do?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Have you sanctified the Lord in your heart?

APPLICATION: Make Jesus your first love and seek to have a relationship with Him.  Everything else will fall into place.

Father, thank You for allowing me to have a relationship with You and with Jesus and with the Holy Spirit.  Thank You for guiding me and leading me in all understanding.  Help me to be a light so others may know You personally and be saved.  In Jesus' precious name, amen...

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
