Our Blessed Hope
He's Coming Back Soon

For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ... Titus 2:11-13 (NKJV)

I don't know about you but when I am getting ready to go on vacation I get real excited.  It's the anticipation of traveling, seeing something new, or just plain getting away always brings me the hope of relaxing and being refreshed.   Hope can be described as a confident desire mixed with the likelihood of success.  Unfortunately, we can put our hope in the things of this world only to have them dashed and broken.

In the book of Titus we are told about a different hope we are to have as Christian believers - it is the blessed hope of the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.  Think about this for a moment, what would you do today if you knew Jesus was coming back this evening?  Would you be disappointed, bummed out or afraid?  I would hope not.  Do you think you would have a blessed hope and be excited and eager to see Him?

The Apostle Paul warned the believers to deny ungodliness and worldly lust, but instead he urged them to live soberly, righteously, and godly, and to be looking for Jesus to come soon (Titus 2:11-13).   We can also see Jesus telling us we need to be ready, looking for His return and believing it could happen at any moment.

Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. Matthew 24:44 (NKJV)

Q:    How can we be ready for Jesus' return?

We can be ready by having a desire to have a relationship with Him.  We can start right now by stopping and taking some time to talk with Him in prayer - thanking Him for the work He is doing in our life, and asking Him to show us every area where we need to allow Him to change us to be more like Him.  It is all about having an abiding relationship with Him.  If we choose to abide in Him, He will abide in us.  We will be His disciples, and we can't get any more ready than this.

If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.  By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. John 15:7-8 (NKJV)

We are told in Ephesians 6:11,to put on the whole armor of God.   And verse 17 tells us to put on our helmet of salvation, which is our blessed hope of Jesus' saving grace upon our lives.  This is what we, as believers, are to focus on each and every day It is the blessed hope of His returning and drawing us unto him in the heavens.  If we truly have a "Blessed Hope" in Jesus returning to take us home with Him, then we ought to be ready this very day.  We ought to have our affairs in order, be at peace with our neighbors, have Christ in our heart and be ready to leave this place.

I want to encourage you today - let's choose to get ready and live today as if we knew this was the exact planned day Jesus was coming to get us.  What a glorious day it will be when He comes back and finds us about His father's business - scrambling around in an attempt to share the message of salvation with those who would otherwise perish.

STUDY QUESTION: According to Titus 2:11-13 what should be our blessed hope?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you prepared for Jesus to come back today?

APPLICATION: Let's get ready for the return of Christ.  Let's be prepared by treating others today as if Jesus was going to appear any second.

Father, thank You for the blessed hope You have given us.  I look forward to Your Son returning to take us away from this sin filled place.  I look forward to living in a place where there are no more tears and no more hurt - no more temptation and no more anger.  Help me to be used in spreading the gospel message so others may be saved.  Even so Lord, come quick.  In Jesus' precious name, amen...

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
