Perfect Love
Casting Out Fear

We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8 (NKJV)

I received an email recently from a person asking for prayer for anxiety because of various symptoms of their health.  I told them how I could fully relate because recently I had symptoms pop up in my health and it started to rock me to the core.  It is amazing how a change in our health can promote all kinds of fear within us.  The thoughts begin to pop into our head about our life coming to an end and it can torment us.  We are told about this very thing in 1 John 4:18.

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. 1 John 4:18 (NKJV)

The fear John is speaking of in this verse is not reverence or respect for God - it is the panic, fright and terror associated with the potential loss of something.  We must understand how much God loves us and how we will forever remain in His love.  Whatever may happen to us in our earthly body will never separate us from this love.  Our fear is simply our denial of His love and our failure to trust Him completely.  After all, our earthly passing is not the end - it is just the transition in our coming into His presence and spending eternity with Him. We, like Paul can say we are well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord (2 Cor. 5:8).

Q:  So how should we approach the temptation to be afraid when we become ill, or experience changes within our health?

We need to place our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.  We need to trust Him completely with every aspect of our life, because as we do this, we will be given a perfect peace.

You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You. Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV)

When we trust in God's perfect plan, we will have peace in the midst of any changes within our body.  We can fully know God is in control and He is capable of healing us in an instant.  If He chooses to use doctors or medicine, then we can be confident there is a perfect work being done in this process - even when we don't see the results we want.  Ultimately, we can still have peace because we are keeping our eyes on eternal things rather than temporal.

STUDY QUESTION: What can we learn with respect to having perfect peace according to Isaiah 26:3, and Phil. 4:6-7?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you putting your faith in God and keeping your mind focused upon Him when facing fearful situations?

APPLICATION: Continue to place your faith in God, knowing He is in control and has a perfect plan for your life.  When facing physical trials, seek Him in prayer and supplication, believing in His perfect plan.

I want to encourage you today if you are facing something causing you to be fearful.  Don't be anxious for anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your heart and mind through Christ Jesus (Phil 4:6-7).

Dear heavenly Father, I thank You for Your love, mercy and grace upon my life.  Father, You possess the key to life and it is You who sets the times and days.  Father, we are finite created beings and we don't understand the glorious wonders You have waiting for us.  We need Your peace and Your love to cover us and to allow us to understand clearly.  Father, I trust You and I come in agreement with Your perfect plan.  I ask these things to be done by the Power of Your Holy Spirit and in Jesus' precious name, amen...
