Is God In It?
Seeking God's Will

For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; Colossians 1:9 (NKJV)

All too often we are hindered in doing the work and will of God because of all the obstacles and distractions of this world - but this should not be the case.  We should be continually seeking God's will for every situation first and foremost.

Q:    So what happens to us?  What causes us to start out with proper motives but fall short of doing God's will?

A:    I believe this happens because we lose focus on our priorities.

We may set out with the proper motives and priorities but something then comes up and we find ourselves changing the order - something becomes more important.  This transition in priorities can happen for multiple reasons such as fear, worry, anger, intrigue, coveting, or jealousy - all temptations to handle the situation we are facing in our own independent way.

When we find ourselves following our feelings in an attempt to take care of the issues we are facing we will usually be neglecting God's will for our lives.  It really doesn't matter which emotion it may be, what's important is the affect they have on God's will for us in that particular situation.

Q:    So how can we stay on target and keep our priorities in line with God's?

A:    By making the decision first and foremost to live for God and to seek His righteousness and to do His will.

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.  Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)

Jesus' words in Matthew 6:33 outline a priority for every Christian life, and they also give us great comfort - our needs will be met as we first seek Him and His ways.

Q:    What does this mean to us practically when facing tough situations or the temptations to handle these situations in our own efforts and abilities?

It means we need to seek the Lord first.  We need to seek His Word to see what He would do.  We need to then abide in what we know to be right and honoring to God.  The result will be God's blessing upon our lives.  And the best part is we can have total assurance He will be for us if we do it His way.

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31 (NKJV)

Hey Christian, I want to encourage you to make the commitment to seek the Lord with all your heart and soul - seek His righteousness and will for your life in every situation.

STUDY QUESTION: According to Romans 8:31 what assurance can we have by seeking the Lord for His will in every situation?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Do you seek the Lord for His will, or do you find yourself trying to figure things out on your own?

APPLICATION: Always be willing to ask, Lord, is this Your will?  Don't let you feelings be the main factor for making your choices let God's Word and the Holy Spirits leading.

Father, thank You for Your Word.  Thank You for giving me great instruction and guidance to handle every situation.  Continue to guide me and lead me in everything I do this day Lord.  In Jesus' precious name, amen...

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
