Go Therefore!

Go Therefore!
Making Disciples

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen." Matthew 28:18-20 (NKJV)

Jesus told each of us as His followers, "Go and make disciples of all the nations." This means we are to share the great news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone.

Q:    In addition to sharing the gospel message, how do we make disciples practically speaking?

  • It's as simple as loving our neighbor as we love ourselves (Rom 13:9), which means we share the same love, mercy, and grace Christ gave freely to us.
  • It's as simple as separating ourselves from living a life of being conformed to this world - instead choosing to live in a way pleasing to God - knowing others are watching and will be drawn to God by our actions.

Often times the enemy tempts us to place this calling at a lower priority and we can find ourselves choosing to stay silent when we know we should be speaking.  We can be so focused on trying to be a friend we choose to stay quiet for fear of rocking the boat and jeopardizing the friendship. The problem with this approach is two-fold.  First, we don't look to be any different than the unbeliever, because we are either partaking with them, or we are simply hanging out and saying nothing.  Secondly, we can find ourselves becoming jaded to the very things we should be taking offense to.

Q:    What good is it to appear to be a friend if we allow someone to continue on a path to destruction?

I have had a person professing to be Christian tell me, "All that stuff about Jesus being the only way - it is just too heavy to say it straight. If that one works for you, its cool, but there are many paths dude.  God is love man, we just need to love each other..."

Yes we do need to love each other, but this is not true love - its weakness, ignorance or apathy.  It is not the true Gospel message spoken in the Bible - the one Jesus preached - so it's also heresy.  And this is exactly how Satan packages his heretical lies, as another form of the gospel - but beware!  The Apostle Paul warned the new churches of this in Galatians.

As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed. Galatians 1:9 (NKJV)

Hey Christian, I have good news for you!  Its politically correct with God if you talk to others about Him.  It's totally cool if you don't go with the flow of our liberal society.  And it's okay to take one on the chin when standing up for what's right.  It might just be the difference in eternal life or eternal death for that person next to you.

STUDY QUESTION: What did Jesus command us to do in Matthew 28:18-20?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you finding yourself compromising your beliefs while allowing others to push their sinful ways upon your life?

APPLICATION:  Stand up and be a witness for God today by living in a Christ-like way.  Our lifestyle should testify of our love for Jesus.   Walk away from the dirty jokes, turn the channel, or simply let that offensive person know you would rather not listen to the profanity they use.  It will make a difference.

Father, I praise You for Your unwavering love and mercy for all of us.  You are an awesome God and we have taken You for granted so many times in our lives.  Forgive us Lord.  Give me the strength today to be the witness that you have called me to be - in love, but also in truth.  In Jesus' precious name, amen...
