Nuclear Rods of Emotion
Covered and Transformed by God's Word

A fool vents all his feelings, But a wise man holds them back. Proverbs 29:11 (NKJV)

I was watching coverage of the Sendai earthquake in Japan as they were speaking about the potential of a meltdown occurring in the nuclear power plant Fukushima Dai Ichi.  And although there was great concern for each of the nuclear reactors, the main issues was centered upon an area in one of the reactors where the spent fuel rods were stored.

Normally there is at least 30-feet of water covering the fuel rods and acting as a barrier so radiation cannot emit into the atmosphere.  But because of the damage suffered during the earthquake, none of the backup safety systems appeared to be functioning and the water - once plentiful and easily accessible to use for cooling purposes - was no longer available.

This was where the danger really heightened because without water covering the fuel rods, they would be exposed to the air where the radiation would be free to exit into the skies surrounding the facility, thereby affecting everything they came in contact with.  If the plant workers could somehow restore power to the generators and get the much needed water to cover the rods, safety would be restored.

As I thought about this tragedy I couldn't help but see an analogy clearly regarding our Christian walk - more specifically, the safety of our walk.  Let me explain.  In the same way the nuclear plant fuel rods generate power, our human emotions can generate a great source of power, either good or bad.   Our emotions can be good and healthy or they can be bad and contaminating.  I have found the stabilizing factor to be God's Word - more specifically, the Water of God's Word.  We see this truth clearly laid out in Ephesians, where husbands are called to wash their wives with the water of the Word.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, Ephesians 5:25-26 (NKJV)

So, in essence, as we are reading our Bibles daily we are really covering ourselves with the water of God's Word.  In the same way the water protects against harmful radioactive material from spewing forth from the nuclear facility, God's Word protects harmful things from spewing forth out of our mouth.  What's even better though, is our nuclear rods of emotions are not just being covered with the water of God's word - they are be decontaminated and transformed into living water.  Jesus told us this Himself.

He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, 'out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.' John 7:38 (NKJV)

Hey Christian, I want to encourage you today to cover any negative emotion you may be feeling with God's Word - those emotions tempting you to spew forth radioactive damage.  Let God transform the source of those emotions to produce fresh, clean, and life-giving water.

STUDY QUESTION: According to John 7:38, what promise has Jesus given to those who believe in Him?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you reading your Bible daily?

APPLICATION:  Give God your best by making time to read His Word.  Cover any damaging emotions and transform them into positive ones capable of affecting others for good.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the Water of Your Word.  Help me to understand and apply what I read each day, and help me to share these things with others as well.  In Jesus' precious name, amen...

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
