Keeping Nothing Back - Paying It Forward
Becoming a Distributor of God's Blessings

And when they had come to him, he said to them: You know, from the first day that I came to Asia, in what manner I always lived among you, serving the Lord with all humility, with many tears and trials which happened to me by the plotting of the Jews; how I kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you, and taught you publicly and from house to house, testifying to Jews, and also to Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. Acts 20:18-21 (NKJV)

I'm not sure why, but all too often we tend to accumulate stuff simply for the sake of obtaining and possessing it.  It can be a swap meet, garage sale, or just about any department store for that matter.  The basic theme is the same - we obtain things and then at some point we tuck them away with all intentions of using them in the future.  But all too often, they simply become a part of our vast collection of stuff not be used and collecting dust.

This can actually happen with our mental stuff as well - the Biblical knowledge we have accumulated and acquired over the years.  Knowledge we thought to be valuable and worth having - stuff we intended to use at some point, but it too is collecting dust. But just like the physical stuff stacked in the corner of the closet or garage, we need to get rid of it.

Q:    So what about the good stuff - the knowledge of God, His Word and wisdom -why would we want to get rid of it?  Shouldn't we be keeping this?

Well, yes and no.  We need to have God's Word in our possession continually so we can make good decisions and judgment, but we must be willing to be a distributor of it as well.  This is exactly what the Apostle Paul was saying to the elders of Ephesus, "I kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you..."

"Pay it forward" is basically what Paul was saying - a principle Jesus proclaimed as well, He too shared those things He heard from the Father.

For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak.  And I know that His command is everlasting life. Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told Me, so I speak. John 12:49-50 (NKJV)

Hey Christian, we have been given much in the way of the good news of Jesus Christ, and His Word.  We need to pay it forward and become distributors of God's great possessions -  His Word, His mercy, His love, and His very nature.

STUDY QUESTION: What can we learn about Paul's lifestyle from Acts 20:18-21?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Is it your desire to live in this same way?

APPLICATION: Make it your goal to pass on to others the blessings God has given to you abundantly.

Father, thank You for giving me so much.  Thank You for Your love, grace, and mercy upon my life.  Thank You for all provision and health.  Thank You for my family.  Thank You for Your Word.  Help me to share these many blessings with others this day.  In Jesus' precious name, amen...

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
