It's Not Our Ability - It's Our Availability
Are You Available?

Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus. Acts 4:13 (NKJV)

When I choose an employee to do a specific job at work, I will usually try to find someone who excels in the specific function I need.  I would like to think of this as wise stewardship - simply using people to do those things they do well.  But as I read the Bible I find God often doing it differently.  Don't get me wrong, in hindsight I think we would all agree He picked exactly the right person for each endeavor He had planned.

The way I see it, God doesn't choose us based on our talents and abilities, but more by our availability and willingness to be used.  Think about it this way, if we were really good at something and able to accomplish something based on our own abilities -  who would receive the credit once the task was accomplished?  Chances are we would be the one receiving the glory rather than God, and chances are we would believe it was by our might, power and great ability as well.

...Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, Says the LORD of hosts. Zechariah 4:6 (NKJV)

This is exciting when we really think about it, because it can really open up many doors of possibility when it comes to being used by our Lord.  For example, it very well might be God's choice to use someone who would have never taught to now teach in an amazing way.  It may be God's choice to take a shy person and give them an amazing boldness to share the gospel with others, or to simply pray for them.  Truth be told, it can be just about anything you are not good at doing, or don't have a desire to do.

God wants to do amazing things through each of us.  And He wants to strengthen our own belief and faith in Him as we find ourselves doing these things -  things we know with certainty we are unable to do in and of ourselves.   God isn't looking for all-stars to serve on His team He is looking for humble servants willing to be used in whatever capacity He chooses.

Hey Christian, I want to encourage you today to simply ask the Lord to use you in whatever way He wants.  Let God begin to reveal His glory to you as well - your testimony will never be the same.

STUDY QUESTION: According to Acts 4:13 how did the people who witnessed Peter and Johns boldness account for this change?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you willing to allow God to be glorified through you in areas where you are weak?

APPLICATION: Let God do a work on you, in you, and through you today.  Simply humble yourself and allow Him to be strong.

Father, thank You for being strong when I am weak.  Thank You for every good work You have done through me.  Thank You for allowing me to write Lord.  I confess apart from You I can do nothing, nor do I want to do anything apart from You.  Help me today in all I do.  In Jesus' precious name, amen...

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
