Papa Steve, Corinne & The Polar Bear
Faith Like A Child

Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:3 (NKJV)

My friend Steve was telling me about this stuffed Polar bear he and his friend Gary had stumbled upon.  Gary encouraged Steve to buy it for Steve's granddaughter Corinne who is 7 years old.  Steve said the Polar Bear reminded him of the bear used in the wintery Coca Cola ads.  Between the two of them they didn't have the money needed to pay the lady her asking price, so Gary asked if she would take the $6.00 they had left after all the other things they purchased.  She happily agreed and Steve was officially the new owner of a life-sized Coca Cola Polar Bear.  He took it to his house and Corinne fell in love with it and it became her favorite.

A few months past and the decision was made by Corinne's father Richard to move the family to Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Steve was saddened, but knew God had a plan for his son and the family.  Little Corinne was adamant about bringing her polar bear with her, but there would be no room until the family found a place of their own, as they would be initially staying with another family.

Corinne, saddened to hear this, asked her Papa Steve to give her Polar Bear a hug each night before he went to bed and to tell it she missed and loved him, which he agreed to do.  About a month later Steve was talking with his family in Oklahoma on the phone, and when Corinne got her turn she asked Papa Steve if he was letting Polar Bear know she missed him, and then she asked him if he would pray with Polar Bear for her daddy to get a job so they could have a home of their own to live so her Polar Bear could be sent to her.

After Steve got off the phone he thought about the promise he had made to his little granddaughter, and he made good on it.  He went into the bedroom where Polar Bear sat and he closed the bedroom blinds and sat there and began to pray to the Lord for the provision of a good job for his son Richard.  Steve valued the integrity of a promise given, and he knew the power of prayer as well.  If his granddaughter was going to pray for her daddy, he was going to join her in praying, and pray he did each night for the next week.

We are told in 1 John 5:14-15 about how we should have confidence in our prayer knowing the things we ask for will be provided as long as it is God's will.   Well, the prayers asked in faith by a little girl in Oklahoma and her Papa Steve in California were in fact God's will.  One week later on February 14th at 6:00am pacific standard time, Steve received a phone call from his son Richard who was very excited to learn of his application being accepted and he was to start work at his new job.

Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God.  But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. Luke 12:6-7 (NKJV)

We serve a mighty God and every detail matters to Him.  Some would call it luck, fate, or coincidence in Richard getting his job.   I would strongly disagree and would say it's the love from our Heavenly Father who wants us to know He's got our lives in His hand.  And this is because Richard's job could have been just about any job, but it wasn't, and I believe God wanted us to see this truth so our faith could be strengthened. You see God had given Richard a job befitting the faith and prayers of a child and her Papa Steve, and He had given him a job also tied to Corinne's big white Polar Bear as well - he was hired by Coca Cola.

Hey Christian, let's go to our Heavenly Father for everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving.  Let's make our request known.  When we do we will have a peace surpassing all understanding and it will guard our heart and mind in Christ Jesus.

STUDY QUESTION: According to Luke 12:6-7, what assurance can we have about God knowing and caring about our every situation?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you trusting in God's provision for your every need?

APPLICATION: Don't be anxious for anything, instead seek the Lord in prayer and supplication for those things you need.  He loves you and will protect and provide for you.  Keep your eyes on Him and trust Him and you will have a perfect peace.

Father, thank You for allowing us to see how much You love and care for us through this story.  Thank You for Your provision and protection of our lives.  Father, thank You for allowing me to see the purity of the faith of a child, and for allowing me to see how this faith is received by You.  I praise You and love You.  In Jesus' precious name, amen...

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
