Get Plugged In
Tapping In The Power of God
In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, Ephesians 1:13 (NKJV)

What a cool covenant our God has made with us!

  •    We place our faith in Jesus - we believe
  •    We confess our sin - agree with God that what we did was wrong
  •    We repent of our sin - turn and go in the other direction
  •    We accept Him as our Lord and Savior

And as a result we get a huge blessing in the form of Holy Spirit who will dwell/live within our body.   We literally get plugged into the power of God.  This divine power will equip us to do whatever God leads us to do, including giving us the boldness to tell others about Jesus.  We see Jesus speaking to the disciples about the Holy Spirit, or "Helper" in the Book of John, as He speaks of the Trinity.

"But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me." John 15:26 (NKJV)

The relation of the Holy Spirit to us - the children of God - is much like that of a shepherd to his sheep. We are to be "led" by Him as our guide and protector, as He gently leads us in the correct decisions and directs us onto the proper paths we should take - never forcing us, but always allowing us the freedom to make our own choices.

There are times when we may even doubt our salvation because our transformation in our Christian walk as progressed so slowly.  Thankfully we can be assured that the Holy Spirit's testimony of our salvation is not based on the rate of this progress. The Holy Spirit bears witness together with our redeemed individual spirit to the reality of our salvation in Christ, and to the membership of God's family.

The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs - heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ Romans 8:16-17 (NKJV)

If you can imagine the richest family in the world; now imagine you being an heir to this family and being given an inheritance because of your relationship.  You didn't earn it; you were just blessed because of your affiliation as a family member.  So it is with God our Heavenly father, as we have been made heirs in His heavenly estate.  We see this being spoken of in the Book of Galatians.

Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, Abba, Father. So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir. Galatians 4:6-7 (NKJV)

I want to encourage you to remember that within your mortal body, resides a loving God, who is all-powerful, all loving, and all knowing.  Let Him work through you.  Let Him guide you into all understanding as He leads you through every situation in life.  It is only when we come to the end of ourselves that we discover the Power and glory of God as we become humble, allowing Him to work through us while deferring all glory for the good we do in our life to Him.

There's a popular saying, "Lead, follow or get out of the way," and I think I am finally understanding it in the way God wants me to.  It took a while for this to sink into my brain since I am an old desert racer and it is in my fleshly nature to always try to lead.  I am beginning to get out of the way and allow His leading in my life.  May this be an encouragement to you today to yield the lead of your life over to our Lord.

STUDY QUESTION: How were we marked when we believed in Jesus as our Lord and Savior?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Have you acknowledged that God lives within your body?  Have you plugged into His Power available to you as a believer?

APPLICATION:  Seek God in every aspect of your life.  Read the Word of God daily, and pray often throughout the day, making sure that you have confessed all known sin, and unknown sin.  Ask God to fill you daily with His power and His Spirit.

Father, I seek You today for wisdom and discernment, guide me in all my ways and thinking as I go forth.  Lead me in understanding as I read Your Word, and allow me to retain it for future use.  May Your power be evident in the Ministry that You have allowed me to participate in.  In Jesus' name, amen..

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
