My What Big Teeth You Have Grandma

My What Big Teeth You Have
A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing

Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. Matthew 7:15 (NKJV)

We've all probably heard the story of Little Red Riding Hood who was on her way to grandma's house, only to be confronted by the big bad wolf who had disguised himself to be grandma.  Most unforgettable was the climaxing part of the story when Little Red suspiciously said, "My what big teeth you have grandma!"

And then there is the story of the Trojan Horse, where many Greek soldiers were hidden inside a large hollow sculptured horse.  The plan was to leave the hidden chambered horse behind and board their ships and pretend to sail away in retreat, hoping those in Troy would come retrieve it.  Sure enough, thinking they had won, the Trojans began to celebrate their victory and they brought the horse in as their trophy.  While they became drunk and impaired the Greek soldiers slipped out from inside the horse and began to do what they had always intended - they began to destroy the people within the once safe city.

Both of these stories have common denominators in that the enemy disguised himself to be something he wasn't, with the intent of conquering those being deceived.  One of the stories is a childhood fable, while the other represents an historical truth.  Unfortunately, as Christian believers, we can unknowingly make the same mistake as those in Troy. I have personally witnessed this within the church, as very personable and talented people are welcomed in to a position of unsupervised teaching.  Soon within the small groups of Bible study, they are bringing their distortions of truth and their baggage of heresy to a teaching platform, often eroding the truth of God as well as the very people who serve in the leadership -  ultimately bringing about disunity and dividing the flock.

This same thing happens daily as members of false religions (cults) work the streets of our neighboring communities.  They very much have the appearance of something good or of God, and will even call themselves Christians but are nothing more than a spiritual Trojan horse.  Once within the walls of your home, they much like the Greek soldiers in Troy, will begin to do exactly what they came for.

I don't think that we need to be paranoid about meeting new people, or even having them join us in worship as we build and bond new friendships, but we do need to remember what Jesus was telling us here in Matthew 7, because not all people claiming to bring the truth are from God, nor is their perversion of the truth.  What can be the same is that they will attempt to pass themselves off as fellow believers.

Q:    How can you know when someone is a wolf in sheep's clothing?

A:    They will usually claim to believe in Jesus and even embrace Him, but will eventually always deny His Deity (His being God) and His proper place within the Trinity of God (3 in One) God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ. Jude 4 (NKJV)

The Apostle Paul speaks of these false teachers as he says they creep into households and make captives of gullible women... (2 Tim 3:6)  These are women who may be convicted or who are even overwhelmed with the sins they have committed.  Paul says they really do want to know the truth but they, "remained ignorant of the truth" (2 Tim 3:7).  He is warning them not to become deceived by these false teachers and drawn into a false religion.

We need to know that this warning isn't just for women either, because men are also falling prey as well.  We need to beware of the Trojan Horse of false teaching in both a church setting, and at our door.  We cannot be ignorant of the truth, lest we too, find ourselves like those who were deceived in Troy.

Hey Christian, read you Bible daily and be prepared to spot any wolf preying on the flock.

STUDY QUESTION: Why should we be careful against sheep in wolve's clothing?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Have you experienced someone coming to your door, claiming to be godly, but denying Jesus as God?

APPLICATION: Know that any "man-made" religion that does not claim that Jesus is God, or one that claims one must add works to be saved, is a CULT!  It is a man-made religion only, and not the true Gospel message.

Father, I thank You that You allow me direct access to You through Your Son, my LORD, and my Savior.  I acknowledge the enemy working through the innocent victims of distorted scripture and half-truths.  I pray that You would open the eyes of those who have been deceived and show them the truth of Your Word, and Your Grace.  In Jesus' name, Amen...
