How Do I Know?

How do I know?
Unmasking The Lies of The Enemy

Jesus answered and said to them, "Are you not therefore mistaken, because you do not know the Scriptures nor the power of God?" Mark 12:24 (NKJV)

Have you ever wondered, as you look upon the multitudes of religious beliefs, "Where does all this stuff come from?"  Or, an even more perplexing question should be, "Which one is right?"

I know for my own personal testimony, I faced this head-on.  I had friends that were raised Catholic, and others that were raised Mormon, or Jehovah's Witness, and variety of other religious beliefs.  I remember as a teen, asking each of them about their beliefs, and what they did at church.  None of them seemed to like going to church and none of them had a clear understanding; or they weren't willing to share their understanding of what they thought or believed other than stating they believed in God.

You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe - and tremble! James 2:19 (NKJV)

Frustrated and baffled about their responses, I made my way to a Calvary Chapel when I was 17 years old.  It was a non-denominational church and it was there that I found out about God and Jesus.  There wasn't a board of elders determining what was to be taught, nor was the pulpit open to whomever had a prophecy - there wasn't a dress code or any other set of rules and regulations other than teaching verse by verse from the Word of God - The Holy Bible.    The message of the Gospel of Christ was simple and easy to understand!  It was given freely just like the Salvation I received - a gift of Grace (unmerited favor).

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV)

Years passed and I was interested in finding out more so I ventured off to attend other Christian denominational churches, always sincerely seeking to hear from the Lord.  After listening to a few Pastors speaking about some things that didn't quite sound right, I I took this as a "Y" in the road in my Christian walk, and it was right then and there, that I decided that I would read the Bible thoroughly and determine from God Himself what He wanted me to know about His inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word, and I've not stopped reading it.

When I have people coming to my door attempting to share their faith and beliefs now I can understand the truth of what God's Word says and actually share with them.  I can do this with a proper heart and in love because I I know from reading the Bible whether it does or does not line up with what the scriptures teach us.

The thing that I am realizing over time is that there are many people who are eager to share their belief in God from the perspective of their particular "man-made religion," and this doesn't make them bad or evil.  The problem is this; they have sat their whole life in a pew or at meetings and have been taught what to think and what to believe.  They have been given other books in "addition to the Word of God" and have been told that they are a reliable source - equal and even superior to the Word of God.

The Scriptures given within the Holy Bible have been given by God to equip us to know everything we need to know about Him, His will, and how we are to live as Christ lived.  They equip us for every good work.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV)

We must guard ourselves against anything that comes against His Word and cast these things down.  Jesus gave a very strong warning against adding to or taking away from His written Word in the Book of Revelation (Rev. 22:18-19).  When someone tells you that they have another book other than the Bible with which they would like to share their faith, make sure what they are sharing lines up with His Word.  If it doesn't, then you know that it is not scriptural, and therefore, it is not from God, but from man.

Hey Christian, I want to encourage you to read your Bible daily for God's truth.  When we do this, we can know the facts of our beliefs and we can defend them against the lies of the devil and his emissaries.

STUDY QUESTION: Why did Jesus say that they were mistaken in Mark 12:24?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Have you found yourself as a Christian not having an answer or knowing a scripture to defend what you believe in when be confronted with another's belief?

APPLICATION:  Start to read daily, the more you read, the more the Holy Spirit will empower you with knowledge and truth.

Father, thank You for Your Word.  I pray that You will guide me in understanding it as I seek to know You and Your will for my life.  Help me today to see the forgeries that the devil is attempting to sell as truth.  I ask this in Jesus' precious name, Amen...

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
