Dire Straits
Lord without You we would be in dire straits...

He delivers the poor in their affliction, And opens their ears in oppression.  Indeed He would have brought you out of dire distress, Into a broad place where there is no restraint; And what is set on your table would be full of richness. Job 36:15-16 (NKJV)

We have been chosen for such a time as this.  What a concept!  God has actually chosen each of us for this time in history to be a part of His kingdom's work.  Not too many people look at their life as chosen nowadays.  The world's economic woes have most of our attention and we often look for some far-off chance of change each time election looms closer.  Many people look at their life through a set of economic glasses and they sadly conclude they are in dire straits.

True change in this world won't come from just a new leader elected into some political position - it will only come from the Savior Jesus Christ.   We must make Him our Lord and be willing to engage into the battle of living like Christ would live.  God has given great promises to us within His Word about our provision.  We do not have to sell our souls to obtain money to live -  money should never by our master.

No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. Matthew 6:24-25 (NKJV)

And we need not worry about how we will find provision either -  we must simply seek the Lord and commit our lives to living righteously - He will provide much in the same way He provides for the birds of the air and the grass in the field.  We are not to worry or fear about our lack of provision during tough economic times, for this is a lack of faith and trust in God.  We see Jesus speaking of this.

"Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?  So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?  Therefore do not worry, saying, What shall we eat? or What shall we drink? or What shall we wear? For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.  But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Matthew 6:25-34 (NKJV)

All too often we attempt to fix whatever problems we may be facing on our own, and we don't seek the Lord.  And this is the very core of our problem.  The money will come and it will go but it should never be an indicator of our safety, happiness or our attitude it is just a tool to be used.  Perhaps we should ask ourselves a few questions.

Q:    Am I being affected by the economy negatively?
Q:    Is the bad economy changing the way I live?
Q:    Do I find my happiness or contentment is changed by the amount of money I possess?

Truth be told, we are rich!  We have been given the keys to Heaven where gold is what the streets are made of (Rev. 21:21).  We have been saved from our sin and have been chosen to be children of God and heirs.  If we should desire to be rich, then it should be in faith, because when we have true faith, then we will believe even during those times where we cannot see the things we need.

Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him? James 2:5 (NKJV)

Hey Christian, if you find yourself worrying or being anxious about your future or your lack of provision, then turn to the Lord and ask Him for forgiveness.  Tell Him that you are sorry for not trusting or exercising your faith in Him and His plan for your life.

Lord without You we would be in dire straits...

STUDY QUESTION: What can we learn from the Scriptures contained within this devotional about having faith in God for all provision?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you willing to trust God for every need in your life?

APPLICATION: Seek the Lord and His righteousness daily.  Pray continually and ask for your provisions to be met.  Walk in faith, knowing God is doing a work in your life.  Don't let what you see cause you to ever doubt His promise to provide.  When there is no way, God makes it happen.  Give Him the glory when you see this and know that He is strengthening your faith during these tough times.

Father, thank You for all provision.  Father, I know that I can do nothing apart from You and I confess that everything I have is because of You.  I trust You and come in agreement with Your plan for me.  Father, continue to guide me to be a good steward of all You have provided and to be compassionate towards those in need.  In Jesus' precious name, amen...
