Revealing The Lie
3-Steps To Deception

Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, "Has God indeed said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?" Genesis 3:1 (NKJV)

There is an old saying, If it ain't broke - don't fix it!  And I would have to think this is something Satan goes by as his master plan for attacking us.  After all, he has used the same tactics since the Garden of Eden.  And why not, because they are still as effective as they were then.

In this devotional, I would like to take a look at the 3-part plan for Satan's patented attack on mankind.  The first step in his 3-part plan is,

1.    Satan attempts to get us to question God's truth

"Has God indeed said, 'You shall not eat of every tree of the garden'?" Genesis 3:1

Satan loves to propose questions to us in an attempt to get us to question God's commands for us.  If he can get us to question what we are learning, he will be successful for his second part of the plan, which is,

2.    Satan will contradict God's Word

Then the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die." Genesis 3:4 (NKJV)

Once he has successfully questioned God's Word, he will contradict God's Word.  Satan continues to use people who have been successfully deceived as his workers of iniquity.  There are so many people who no longer turn to the Bible for answers, but instead, they listen to others who are falsely interpreting scripture, or worse yet, are adding to it.  When you attend church, make sure you are bringing a Bible and taking notes.  Go home and continue to study what you have been taught and make sure it is what God's Word says.  The same thing applies to reading any other writings, including these - always seek the Bible for authenticity and accuracy.

Once Satan has successfully challenged God's Word and has contradicted it, he only has one more step to lead people astray in their learning, and that is,

3.    Satan will counterfeit and attempt to replace God's truth

"For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." Genesis 3:5 (NKJV)

Satan loves counterfeit!  It started in the Garden of Eden when he told Eve something completely different than what God had said.  He spun his lies within the information he gave to her; deceiving her into thinking his way was the best way.  It is the same for us today.  Satan continues to roam around questioning, contradicting, and counterfeiting the Gospel message and the Bible.  There are a plethora of false religions and cults roaming around, knocking on doors, and deceiving people into believing his lies.

Satan will allow many of these religions to include 8-truths, just to get his 2-lies in.  They will say they believe in Jesus too - and yet they will deny that Jesus is God.  They will question what the Bible clearly teaches.  They will contradict what God has said, and they will counterfeit the Christian faith, and then add their own spin by saying God has sent a new prophet with a new current message that supersedes the old message. An example of this distortion is the NWT (New World Translation bible), where the anonymous writers have edited and revised many key texts of the original Greek writings for the specific purpose of agreeing with a group's doctrine.

We can see the Apostle Paul warning the church of these false doctrines.

Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons. 1 Timothy 4:1 (NKJV)

And, we can see the strong teachings given by The Apostle Paul as well for those who would teach anything contradicting the Gospel message contained within the Bible (See 1 Cor 15:1-4).

But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. Galatians 1:8 (NKJV)

Hey Christian, I want to encourage you to read your Bible daily.  It is easy to spot a lie when we know the truth.

STUDY QUESTION: What can we learn from Galatians 1:8 about accepting any other message than the one given by the Apostles?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Can you see the times in your life where the enemy has used this 3-part plan in an attempt to deceive you?

APPLICATION: Keep reading the Bible and you will be able to see the deceptions clearly.

Father, Thank You for Your Word.  Thank You for showing me Your truths and for allowing me to see the lies of the enemy as a result of knowing these truths.  Help me to continue to understand and remember Your truth as I read my Bible.  In Jesus' precious name, amen...

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
