What Happens In Church Shouldn't Stay In Church!

Then the King will say to those on His right hand, "Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; "Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink?  And the King will answer and say to them, "Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.' Matthew 25:34-35, 37, 40 (NKJV)

In a recent devotional called, "What Happens in Vegas doesn't stay in Vegas," I looked at this lie from the enemy leading people to believe there's a place they can go to experience and practice sin without having their sin discovered.  According to these advertisements, these sinful things are not only permitted there, but the listener is tempted to come there and to do whatever they "Feel" like doing - it is welcomed.  It doesn't matter whether those things are an abomination unto the Lord or not, the only selling point is whatever is done won't be spoken of.

As I was writing this particular devotional, it dawned on me how there are times where it can appear those in the Church body are catching a similar tagline.  It appears as if they might be thinking to themselves,  "Hey, What Happens in The Church, Stays in The Church."  In other words, I can go to Church and get everything I need to sustain me and my needs, but it's not my job to share it with anyone.

Again, I can't help but think this is a lie from the father of lies (Satan).  But we can clearly see throughout Scripture of our responsibility for sharing the Word of God with others.  Jesus gave His followers the Great Commission to "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15).  And we see the Apostle Paul encouraging his young Christian friend Timothy about this very thing as well.

These things command and teach. Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.  Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all.  Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you. 1Timothy 4:11-13,15-16 (NKJV)

Notice the advice given to Timothy - he is told to give attention to reading, and to exhortation.  He is to take heed, or pay attention to himself - to continue in the doctrine.  And if he does this, he will save himself and "those who hear."  So here is the main carrot for this set of Scriptures, "people need to hear the Word of God.  And they can't hear the Word of God unless we are speaking forth the Word for them to hear."

Let me give an analogy for another way of looking at it.  Let's say the world was in a great drought and famine - there was simply not enough food and water out there to sustain the people and they, as a result were dehydrating and dying from a lack of food and water.  Now let's say you found a warehouse full of food and bottled water, and the people were willing to give it to whomever was willing to receive it - and as it was given, you could clearly see this food and water was the reason people were alive.

This warehouse was a part of a series of warehouses distributing food and water from a Master supplier, and they would never run out. In fact you were given food and water for yourself, and you were instructed to pass it on to others and then come back for more to share. So, with this example being given, how would you answer these following questions?

Q:    What would you do if you were the person who had knowledge of the water warehouse, and were receiving a backpack full of water to take and share with others?

Q:    Would you say nothing and keep it all for yourself?
Q:    Would you help others by sharing with those in need?
Q:    Would you share with them what you have been given and then point them to the warehouse, and ultimately the one who provides every bit of the water?

What happens in the Church shouldn't stay in the Church!  We are being fed by the Word of God.  We need to share the things we are learning from God through the teaching of His Word, the Bible.  Gods word is powerful and it saves - lets make a commitment to share what we have been given with those who are dying without it.

And Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. John 6:35 (NKJV)

STUDY QUESTION: What things did the Apostle Paul command and teach in 1Timothy 4:11-13,15-16?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you taking heed, and paying attention to continue in the doctrine?  Are you sharing what you are learning?

APPLICATION: Consider yourself a garden hose, and God's Word being the water.  Let it flow through you to those people who are thirsty and who are dying from lack of water.
