Being Used By The Master Artist

For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. Romans 11:29 NKJV)

Have you ever looked at a painting and had it catch your eye in a way that you could totally relate to what was painted?  It could have been a scene of a beautiful sunset or perhaps a picture of a specific place that you had once visited, or hoped to visit.  It could be a painting of a famous athlete that perfectly captured them doing what they do best.

There is something special about the talent and ability of a person who is able to take a series of brushes and various hues of oil and turn them into a work of "Art." I can honestly say that I would love to have this gift and ability but it is not one that God has chosen for me to possess.  I think there are many people who could honestly say that they have witnessed the talents of artists and had thought to themselves, "I wish that I could do that.  "

Q:    What if I told you that you were, in fact, able to be a part of a masterpiece painting?

I believe that God allows each of us to be a part of His masterpiece paintings - let me explain.  I think of God as the Master Artist, and we are the various brushes that He chooses to use if we are willing to be used.  His palette of colors is made up of our unique individual gifts that He has chosen to give each of us.  We all have gifts, and we are to use these gifts to edify the entire body of believers.

There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 (NKJV)

As God takes His brush (Us believers) and perfectly paints each stroke with the perfectly chosen color (Our gifts) into the lives of others, He is able to create the perfect original oil on canvas that captures many lives working together as one body of believers - each one is priceless!

For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. Romans 12:4-5 (NKJV)

God in His sovereignty is working in every situation of our life and the lives of those around us.  He knows what each person needs and He has equipped us to be used in a mighty way in their lives.  These things - these gifts and abilities  - that you can do for others may not seem significant to you, but they very much can be.

We need to remember that we are told, "Whatever you do, do it heartedly unto the Lord and not to men (Col. 3:23)."   This simply means that when we have the opportunity to use our gifts - our talents, resources and abilities - we should be willing as if it were for God because that is who it is ultimately for.

He wants to use each of us today in a way that He has perfectly planned.  He desires to use us with our gifts, our abilities, and with our unique, individual, and sometimes-quirky personalities.  We can read in His Word that He sets us apart (Sanctifies us) for His specific purposes long before we were ever even born.

"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; Jeremiah 1:5 (NKJV)

Hey Christian, God is working on a Masterpiece painting as we speak.  The gifts He has given us are irrevocable, and so is His calling in our lives.  Here are a few questions to ponder today.

Q:    Will you allow God to use you for what He created you for?
Q:    Will you allow God to use you as one of His brushes today?
Q:    Will you allow God to select one of your gifts (Colors) from His palette to share with others?

I cannot take the glory for any of my gifts - it is God who deserves that.  But I can rejoice in the fact that He has chosen to use me as one of His brushes in His painting.

STUDY QUESTION: What can we learn from the Scriptures contained within this devotional with respect our gifts and our responsibility for using them?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you willing to allow God to use you as one of His paintbrushes?

APPLICATION: Seek the Lord today in prayer; ask Him to use you in whatever way He desires - be willing to use the gifts that He has given to you for the betterment of others.

Father, Thank You for allowing me to be used by You.  Lord, show me how I can better serve others for Your kingdom.  Help me to know what and when to be involved in and how to better use my time.  In Jesus precious name, amen...

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
