Swampland In Florida

Swampland In Florida
"Boy, do i have something for you"

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Ephesians 6:11 (NKJV)

We are told to "Stand against the wiles of the devil?"  So what exactly are the "Wiles of the devil?"  The wiles of the devil are the "Schemes" or "Strategies" that he uses to sell us on his deception and lies.

There is an old saying that is used for gullible people that goes like this, "If you believe that, then I have some swampland in Florida to sell you." This saying came about because of the scams of the con-men who would sell useless Florida swampland at a premium price under the false pretense that it could be built upon, and was therefore something of value.  And that's exactly what Satan does to us - he presents stuff to us in such a way that it actually looks like something of worth.

Deception is a key strategy of the enemy.  I was reading a car magazine the other morning and as I was skimming through the pages, a couple of ads caught my eye.  One ad selling a new 2010 4-door sports car read, "Converts non-believers four at a time."  My question was, "Converts them to what - believers?"  And if so, believers in what?  Another car company that is now owned by the United States government had an ad pushing their new muscle car and it read, "Lust Conquers all." The enemy used to use subtle ads, but as we are in the last days, he is putting on a full court press.

That was just one magazine.  We are being bombarded 24-7 from Satan's techniques in Spiritual warfare.  We are being hit by every point of purchase display and in every facet of technology such as computers, phones, and cable TV with these deceitful, but well choreographed lies. The question is, "Are we buying it?"

Even man has learned to use Satan's techniques in their fighting against other men.  In the oldest military treatise in the world, titled, "The Art of War," many techniques are laid out which imitate Satan's attack on mankind.  Let's look at some of these tactics - as you do, think of how Satan and his emissaries are using these tactics on your life.

  • All warfare is based on deception.
  • When able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must seem inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are near.
  • Hold out baits to entice the enemy.
  • If your opponent is of choleric (Bad) temper, seek to irritate him.  Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant.
  • If he is taking his ease, give him no rest. If his forces are united, separate them.

Hey Christian, the enemy is going to try and deceive us into thinking that we need the things that we don't need.  He is going to attempt to deceive us into thinking that if we had just a little bit more, then we would be okay.  He is going to attempt to deceive you to think that it's okay if you only do that certain thing once or twice, and that you won't get caught up or addicted to it.  But we need to be wise to his schemes, and understand that he is our adversary, and our enemy.

We've been told to be vigilant because this enemy is walking about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (See 1Peter 5:8).  And the way we are to be vigilant is to be educated, and that education comes by solid food of God's Word.

But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. Hebrews 5:14 (NKJV)

I want to encourage you today to be mindful - not gullible.  Let's say "No" the enemies selling of useless swampland.  Let's use the discernment that we have been given by God, and seek the promises of His Word to guide us in all of our activities.  We have a greater power that resides in each of us as Christian men and women - so we ought not be afraid.

You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 1John 4:4 (NKJV)

STUDY QUESTION: What can we learn about our responsibility with regard to being deceived by the enemy according to the scripture contained within this devotional?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Have you found yourself believing in the lies of the enemy?  Can you see how he uses the things of this world to entice and lure in his deceptions?

APPLICATION: Let's not be controlled by our lusts - let's let God govern our actions.  If we feel that we have to have something - chances are we are coming under the bondage of it.

Father, Thank You for guiding me in all understanding.  Thank You for allowing me to see the schemes of the enemy.  Help me to see clearly and overcome any temptation that is controlling my actions.  I need you in my life today Lord.  In Jesus precious name, amen...
