Confidence Properly Placed
You're in good hands kid!

And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.  My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand. John 10:28-29 (NKJV)

I'm glad that I don't obtain my confidence (or lack thereof) from the things that I see in this world or by the things I possess in it either.  Everything is constantly changing and what appeared to be of greater value yesterday is of little or no value today. Everywhere I turn I see companies advertising assurances and promises of protection and confidence - but they are nothing more than that - just advertising for you to buy their product.

I came home from a family vacation a few weeks back, only to see water gushing out of the cracks of my concrete driveway as the water main line to our home from the service at the street had ruptured.  I would have been ecstatic if it had been oil, but I guess that was not God's plan for me to be Yucaipa's version of the Beverly Hillbillies.

Three days later, and four yards of concrete, a talented plumber, an array of plumbing fixtures, valves and pipe, as well as a chunk of money and the line was repaired.  I guess if I would have truly believed in the propaganda from the insurance companies I would have had peace of mind throughout this ordeal - after all, just think of the assurances we have been given in the TV commercials, such as, "Like a good neighbor, "_ _ _ _ _  _ _ _ _ " is there."  Or how about this one, "You're in good hands with  "_ _ _   _ _ _ _ _."  Oh, I like that one.

Truth be told, I did have a peace - but it wasn't because of some tag or an insurance company.  Heck, I didn't even make a claim, because our particular Insurance carrier have already given us notice to find another company by next year for insurance coverage - not because we have ever had a claim mind you; it seems that we are located next to some foothills that might catch fire one day, and the odds-makers for the company figure we are an actual risk now.

This is not a personal rant on Insurance companies, nor do I have a beef with them; my point is this: I don't put my confidence in them, nor do I derive my peace of mind from them, or anything else in this world for that matter.  I do however put my confidence in God alone and it is in Him that I find my peace.  He is in charge!  He is in control!  He has a plan for my life, and I trust His plan.  It was "His" money that paid for the repairs on "His" house - so what's there to complain about?  He even allowed our insurance company to give us that notice of cancellation so I know that He has a plan in this as well.  I don't have to understand His plan - just trust in it.

I get my confidence from God, and from His Word.  I have read of countless occurrences where the situation was not favorable, or it may have even been deadly, and yet He divinely intervened and provided and protected those in danger.  Jesus gave everyone a promise of eternal life for believing in Him, and confessing Him as our Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9,10).  And for those who made that profession; they have been given the right to be called children of God (John 1:12).  And they have been given the promise that they could never be snatched from God's hand (John 10:28-29).   Now that's confidence properly placed in the promises of God!

The Word of God states that Jesus was tempted in all points, which means that he faced the temptation to fear for His life.

For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Hebrews 4:15 (NKJV)

Many times Jesus faced perilous situations or angry crowds who intended on stoning Him, and many times God delivered Him.  God had a plan for Jesus' life, and there was no one, or anything that was going to harm Him before that plan was completed. The reason was that it was not in God's perfect timing.  Jesus was faithful to trust in His Father's provision and protection, and in doing so He could put any temptation to fear out of his mind.

Therefore they sought to take Him; but no one laid a hand on Him, because His hour had not yet come. John 7:30 (NKJV)

Hey Christian, it is the same for you and I - God has a perfect plan for our life, and He is in control.  No one can snatch you away from Him!  I don't know what kind of challenges you are facing right now, and I don't want to underscore the feelings of hurt and emotional pain that you may be facing - but I want to remind you and encourage you that God is with you and will remain with you to the end of age.  He is in control and He cares for you deeply.  Trust in Him alone, and allow Him to lead and guide you through those trials and tests that you are in the midst of.

STUDY QUESTION: What can we learn with respect to our protection and God's will from the scriptures contained within this devotional?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you putting your confidence in the promises of something or someone other than God and His Word?

APPLICATION: Seek the shelter of your loving Father.  Read His Word, and stand on the promises contained within it.  Trust in God's provision and protection and fear not!

Father, Thank You for Your provision and Your protection in my life.  I know that You have a specific plan and I trust in that plan.  Father, forgive me for the times where I have doubted because of the things that I have seen.  I choose to seek You and Your Word to guide me today.  In Jesus precious name, amen...
