As The Prayer Goes, So Goes The...

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV)

I was over at Lowes hardware store the other day, and I ran into a friend of mine whose name is Lloyd.  Lloyd is a very talented general contractor who has built many beautiful structures and projects over the years including some of our favorite rides at Disneyland.  Needless to say, he's good at what he does.  But better than that, he loves the Lord with all of his heart, soul and mind-and it shows.  I don't care how bright the sun might be shining, when Lloyd comes into your presence, it gets brighter, and I cant think of a better testimony to say about a Christian's walk than to be able to say this.

I first met Lloyd as we were going through the first stages of looking to build our new church building here at Wildwood Calvary Chapel Yucaipa, and it has been a tremendous blessing.  We have seen the Lord's hand upon each and every detail during every step.  From the very inception, starting with the purchase of the property it has been done according to God's perfect plan and in His perfect timing. We could not have even begun to achieve what God has done.   We've made it our mission statement to not strive over finding funding or any other aspect of this project, but instead, through prayer, we have fully relied upon the Lord for every aspect of what has been needed to perform the next step.

One thing we have learned throughout this thus far is that we have had to take steps in faith before the provision of God's full blessing was given to us.  We had to walk in faith, and in doing so, God faithfully provided.

*    By faith, we made a very small bid on the land, but still big enough that we could not afford, but the seller was led to sell to us.
*    By faith, we had to commit to buying this land even though we didn't have all of the funding, and again, once we committed, God provided.
*    By faith, we purchased more property than we wanted or needed, because the seller insisted that we buy it all, or buy none.  And again, we prayed and God prompted us to walk in faith.

Once we took steps in faith, he sent us a buyer to buy back the portion that we never wanted, and that amount paid of all of the property and then some.  We have always sought the Lord in prayer, and God has always provided.

Lloyd was one of those provisions from the Lord.  I believe that God sent Lloyd to see this project through, and much of what he is here to do, has nothing to do with the actual building aspect.  Let me explain, because it is the basis for this devotional message, and it will have a very profound impact on your life, if you will receive this God given principle and apply it in every aspect of your life.

You see, one of the best pieces of wisdom that I have ever heard actually came from Lloyd's mouth at the very beginning of the project.  He said, "As the prayer goes, so goes the building."  He went on to elaborate that it was his experience when building previous church buildings that as they kept the project constantly before the Lord in prayer, the project went great.  But that when they stopped praying about the project, then the project hit all sorts of problems and hindrances.

I thought about it, and it seemed so simple, and yet so profound. That's the way it is in our Christian walk, and this is the way it will always be.  God is faithful to those who diligently seek Him-those who come to Him in prayer-those who would ask for His guidance and His perfect will in each situation of their life.

Okay, so maybe you aren't planning to build any sort of structure in the near future.  But how about building your walk with God?  How about building your marriage?  How about building your business, or your career, or anything that is worth building for that matter?

If we diligently seek God in every aspect of our life; if we are willing to continually come to Him in prayer to find out what His will is for whatever we are facing, then He will be faithful to show us, guide us, and to provide whatever is needed to complete His will.

So, using marriage as an example:  if we know that God wants our marriage to be blessed and to prosper, then let's seek His will for our marriage in every situation.  Let's abide in His Word, and apply it to our lives.  Let's seek Him in prayer for every aspect of our marital needs, and then believe that He will provide.

Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. Mark 11:24 (NKJV)

I fully believe that as we earnestly seek and ask God to find out His will for our situation, He will lay it on our heart to pray for what we truly need.  It is when we do this, that we can be fully confident that He will answer our prayer, because it will be His will.  But when we come to God asking for what we want, instead of what He wants, we will find that we don't have these prayers answered.

Hey Christian, I want to encourage you to keep praying to God for every detail of your life.  Pray continually, and you will have a peace, knowing that God is in control.  Things will definitely go smoother because you will not be anxious, or filled with uncertainty, but instead, you will be confident that God is at work, and He has every detail worked out.

STUDY QUESTION: What can we learn with regard to faith when praying to God according to the scriptures above?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you praying about God's will for everything in your life, or are you just waiting for a crisis to seek God's help?

APPLICATION: Pray continually about everything.  Ask God for His will in each situation, and have peace that He is working in that situation, even if you don't see the fruit of it immediately.

Father, Thank You for allowing me to come directly to You in prayer.  Help me to remember that You have a perfect plan for my life, and that I need not be anxious for anything; but in prayer and supplication, I should make my requests known to You.  In Jesus precious name, amen...

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
