List of Things To Do

List of Things To Do
For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, Peace and safety! then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. 1Thessalonians 5:2-6 (NKJV)
I dont know about you, but I like to make a list of things to do each day. It works well with me because I seem to get sidetracked with various things, and then I wonder what it was that I was doing. Sooner or later I figure it out, but there is that little nagging feeling like Im forgetting something, and I dont like that.
So the list goes together and I write down the various things that I want to accomplish. Its a good system to have because it allows me to do things spontaneously and then come back to my list and the things that had given priority to getting done. If I dont get them all done, then I can add them to tomorrows list.
I was reading some scriptures the other day that is referring to Jesus coming back to gather the church unto Himself, and I started to think about what we are told in these writings. In Thessalonians we are told that the Lord will come as a thief in the night. Which means that some will be caught off guard at His coming. Jesus tells us that we wont know the exact day or the hour that He is coming back.
Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming. Matthew 25:13 (NKJV)
But that doesnt mean that as Christians that we wont know the season that He is coming back. There are many signs that we are told that will happen just before He comes back. And these signs are upon us now. It is only the unbelievers who are in the dark with regards to Jesus coming.
We Christians, on the other hand are children of light, and we need to be sober and watchful, always looking for His return, and being prepared for it as if it were immanent and happening today. Jesus emphasizes that we should watch, and Be ready in chapter 25 of the book of Matthew. And He also tells us that we should be taking those things that He has given to us, and investing it into the kingdom of God. We should be busy about doing our Fathers business when He comes back.
So the next time we throw together a List of things to do, it should probably look something like this:
    1.Read Scripture
2.Spend time in prayer with the Lord
3.Seek Gods will for my life today
4.Pray for others in my family, neighborhood, and workplace
5.Take the abilities, time, talent and resources that God has given me and invest them into the lives of others
    6.Watch for the Lords return
7.Be ready for Him to come
Hey Christian, I want to encourage you today to make these items a part of your list of things to do. You will have other things to add; of that Im sure. But always include these, and keep them a part of your life. Theyre what God wants for us, and they will keep us focused on the Kingdom instead of this world.
STUDY QUESTION: What do the Scriptures above tell us that we should be doing each day?
PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you watching every day eagerly awaiting the Lords return? Are you busy doing your Fathers business? Are you investing those things that you have been blessed with into the lives of others? Is there something else in your life that is more important to you right now?
APPLICATION: Make these things a part of your list today. Focus on the Kingdom and think about eternity. It is upon us now.
Father, Thank You for reminding me that we are almost out of here. Lord, I am willing to be doing the things that You have called me to do this day. I want to be about Your business, and not be sidetracked with what I desire. Help me to remember this each day Lord. In Jesus precious name, amen...
