Monday Never Comes!

Monday Never Comes!
But that isnt what you learned about Christ. Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like Godtruly righteous and holy. Ephesians 4:20-24 (NKJV)
How many times have we said that we were going to start a project that wed kept putting off forever? When the thought of doing it comes to mind, you respond with, Ill do it next week, Ill start it Monday! Okay maybe its not a project; maybe its a bad habit or a sinful pattern that youre stuck in, and wanting to change, or are adamant about quitting. It can be anything, such as:
"That late night bowl of ice cream,
"That casual drink you have with your friends,
"That pack of cigarettes you smoke each day
"That tendency to look at pornography
"That tendency to fornicate rather than abstain
"That tendency to gossip about something youve heard
    "That tendency to judge others
The list can be as long as a country mile, but the common denominator is that they are patterns that you know that need to be stopped, and you keep putting them off. Ill do it Monday&
Q:Why is it that Monday never comes?
A:Actually it does once a week, but as far as the fulfilling that commitment and starting that new way of life, it never seems to happen the way youd intended, or hoped for.
Our problem isnt always a lack of desire to change, but a lack of self-discipline. We allow our bodys cravings to dictate what we actually do, rather than our wisdom, and intellect, which reasons to us that we need to stop this pattern because it is not healthy, both physically, and spiritually.
I think once weve determined that something is not in Gods will, we can determine that it is sin. And the Bible gives us great insight as to how were to handle sin.
Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. For sin shall not have dominion over you& Romans 6:11-14 (NKJV)
So, if we take the scriptures above and formulate a new plan of attack, we can simply apply these practices and alleviate any unhealthy pattern that we are dealing with.
Weve learned about Jesus, what He has done for us, and we know what His Word tells us about these patterns, so here is 3-things to help implement your new plan.
1.Were to throw off our old sinful nature, and our former way of doing things. This means youre going to purpose in your heart that you dont want to live this lifestyle anymore. Youre not going to go to those places or choose to participate with those people who choose to live in sin.
2.Were to let The Holy Spirit renew our thoughts and attitudes. This happens when we spend time in the Word of God, and in prayer. Our thoughts start to change, as our mind is being filled with Gods Word.
3.Were to put on our new nature, created to be like God. As we put Gods ways into practice, such as a new way of thinking, talking, or behaving, we start to change our patterns and our character becomes like Christ.
Look, nothings going to change if you dont take steps to change the way youre doing things. If you have a purpose in your heart, along with wisdom of what you should be doing, then you just need to take one step at a time, with the empowering of the Holy Spirit. It is a decision to live unto God.
Hey Christian, dont get overwhelmed; get empowered by the Holy Spirit. Dont think that you have to do this alone, because you dont. You just have to be willing. God will guide you through the rest of it.
    By the way, todays Monday.
STUDY QUESTION: How are we to live according to the scriptures contained in this devotional?
PERSONAL INVENTORY: Is there something that you cannot seem to stop, but you have the desire to stop?
APPLICATION: Its Monday, ask the Lord what it is that He wants you to lay at His feet. Now lay it down today; its Monday.
Father, help me today to lay down any vice, habit or sinful pattern that is keeping me from enjoying the life Youve planned for me. Give me the power today to start new practices that will replace the old sinful ones. In Jesus precious name, amen&
