Dividing Rightly! Part II

Dividing Rightly! Part II
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV)
In Part I of this study, we looked at the effects of the Nation of Israel as recorded in the Old Testament. They allowed surrounding cultures to influence them to the point of walking away from the Word of God, and enticed them to follow these foreigners in the worship of pagan rituals and practices. The end result was a convoluted culture and Israel was now a scattered nation left in ruins.
We also discussed the effects of Christians following the Word of God in our Country, the United States of America. There are many who are now stating that Christianity is a narrow minded and divisive way to believe. There are even many mainstream Christian Churches whose high profile leaders are advocating unity over the Gospel message. The open acceptance of Homosexuality, and other abominations of sinful behavior are now becoming acceptable, and it is politically incorrect to hold those who partake of these acts. The liberal media is flaming the embers of persecution against those who would preach the Word of God in love, because of the convicting message it brings.
So what should we do as Christian believers in these times? Should we water down the message or abstain from it all together in favor of the message of love and unity?
I suggest we do not stop preaching and teaching the Word of God in an attempt to be politically correct. This would not be love at all. This is the reason so many of our children are ending up in perverse sexual, alcoholic and drug infested lifestyles; because the parents were not willing to love the child enough to teach them the truth of God in love; to correct them in the love of Gods Word, nor were they willing to lovingly say No to the actions which were in contrast to what God has commanded of us.
Jesus spoke of our culture, and this very time in the history of mankind, when He spoke to the multitude that had gathered to hear Him. He told them what He had come to earth to do; the effects of His teachings and the impact it would have on our relationships with those who refused to apply them to their lives.
Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law. Luke 12:51-53 (NKJV)
So what was the effect of the Gospel Message? Well, it has done what it said it is suppose to do in Hebrews 4:12. It is of God. It is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
"It has divided those who are saved from those who are lost.
"It has divided those who believe from those who dont believe.
"It has divided those who have hope in eternal life, from those who have no hope of eternal life.
The Word of God is not just a collection of words from God. Its not just a collection of ideas for us to pick and choose from. We are told in Romans 12:2 the Word of God is responsible for transforming our lives as we are renewed by reading it. We are told in Romans 1:16, it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes. And for those who say it is simply a collection of writings from men, we are told differently in 2 Timothy 3:16, where it says All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.
Dont be surprised if someone says to you, I dont want to hear what you are quoting out of the bible, because the Bible told us this would happen in the Last Days as well.
For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. 2Timothy 4:3 (NLT)
So let me encourage you Christian. Hold Fast to the Word of God! Dont allow anyone or any belief system fill your head with lies and deception. Go to the Bible and confirm the truth. And ask God to give you wisdom and discernment in understanding everything He wants you to know.
STUDY QUESTION: What can we know about the Word of God and the society we live in with regards to accepting it from the scriptures above?
PERSONAL INVENTORY: Do you read the Bible daily?
APPLICATION: Spend time in the Word daily. It will change your life, and transform you to be more like Christ. Always check what others say by reading the Word of God. Dont take any other books authority over the Word of God.
Father, Thank You for Your Word. Thank You for giving us it to know Your will for our lives. Help me today to properly understand it, and give me the wisdom to implement it in my life. Open my eyes to the deception of the enemy each time it is proposed to me through false teachings. In Jesus precious name, amen&
