Christian Nightmares & The Master Chef

For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways, says the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9 (NKJV)

Why is it, we have to do things our own way?

Why do we have to put our little pinch of oregano in the oatmeal cookies?

And more importantly, where did we learn our ways?

I watch this show occasionally called, Kitchen Nightmares, and it is about a renowned chef named Gordon Ramsey, who goes to failing restaurants around the country. He is there to help these people to turn their businesses around. Usually the owner of the business has run it into the ground for a variety of reasons. Sometimes its the service, but usually its the food. Its horrible!

So, Chef Ramsey comes in and sits down at their restaurants and begins sampling some of their favorite items on the menu. And usually this is where the program becomes fun to watch, as he begins to openly criticize their cooking. The more they fight his critiquing and criticizing, the worse it gets. Everything from, This isnt fit for a dog! To, Youre going to kill someone with this food!

I never really understand the people on this show either. I mean, they have to know its coming; right? I can see the conversation between the owners of the restaurants and the head cooks as they consider being on the show. Hey no ones coming in our restaurant, and were going to go out of business. So why dont we get this English fellow who has a reputation of slamming everyone, to come to our restaurant and critique our food and see if we should do something different?

So this is my angle on this. Im not even going to compare Chef Gordon Ramsey to God, but I can see where we sure act like the restaurant owners when it comes to receiving good advice and Godly counsel. When it doesnt line up with what we want to do, we start kicking and screaming!

Think about it for a moment. We have the ultimate recipe book that has ever been written, and its called the Bible.

So what do we usually do with it? We do what any arrogant and prideful person who thinks they can cook does, we take the basic recipe and then we distort it by adding our own little something to it, so we can call it our own. And the next thing you know, there we are, all messed up, simply because we didnt allow God to lead us into all understanding, nor did we allow Him to empower us to get over our own inabilities.

As a dog returns to his own vomit, So a fool repeats his folly. Proverbs 26:11 (NKJV)

And to add injury to insult, we often times continue to justify our actions, and even go so far as to share our rotten recipe with others by saying things like, Look, this is my recipe, or opinion on what it means to live a Christian life&

So why do we keep insisting our way is right, instead of allowing God to help us out?

Are we really any different than the Restaurant owners who hang on to their raunchy recipes instead of allowing the master Chef to reconstruct the way they do things?

Well, if were not reading our Bibles, and allowing ourselves to be transformed by the renewing of our minds; if were not allowing the Holy Spirit to guide our every action, then the answer is No!

Hey Christian, I want to encourage you today to remember, youve got the Master Chef to teach and guide you in exactly what you need to know, to get your life on the successful track. There is no reason to try to add to what He has already done for you, and you would be foolish to tamper with His perfect recipe for your life. Trust Him, and allow Him to do what He does best. You will be blessed!

Now therefore, listen to me, my children, For blessed are those who keep my ways. Proverbs 8:32 (NKJV)

STUDY QUESTION: When it comes to doing things Gods ways, or doing them our own way, what can we learn from the scriptures above?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Have you found yourself resisting following the recipe the Lord has laid out for your life?

APPLICATION: Dont get legalistic, get a relationship with Jesus and then start reading the Bible and applying the things He shares with you.

Father, Thank You for putting together a perfect recipe for my life. I am sorry for all the times I have intervened and changed it, only to mess up what You had planned for me. Help me to remember Youve got a plan for my life, and everything is under your control. In Jesus precious name, amen&

    Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
