To Walk Worthy of Your Calling

I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, Ephesians 4:1 (NKJV)

I don’t know about you, but I tend to respond in a positive way to the people who show me kindness and love. I remember, as a child, if I knew someone truly cared for me it would usually impact my attitude towards how I acted towards him or her. It’s kind of like having a parent who has loved and nurtured you—you tend to want to show them respect, and do what is right and honoring to them.

This is pivotal for us to know as disciples of Jesus, because it gives us a proper perspective, along with a grateful heart with which to serve our Lord. Our attitude begins to change, as we comprehend more and more what our Heavenly Father has done for us—things such as,

· He has allowed Jesus to die so we might have a relationship with Him (2 Cor. 5:18-20)

· He has given us the Holy Spirit to live within our bodies and to lead us in all understanding (John 14:16-17, 26)

· He has given us His Word to provide us with His knowledge and truth (2 Tim. 3:16-17)

· He has provided us with a way to come directly to Him through Jesus in prayer so we may communicate with Him (John 14:6)

· He loved us while we were yet sinners (Rom. 5:8)

· He bestowed His unmerited favor upon us, and by this grace we’re saved—not of works, lest we boast (Eph. 2:8-9)

Q: How should this affect us as Christian men and women?

It should give us great peace, and it should empower us to be more effective in our Christian walk. Unfortunately, we are often tempted into believing the lies from Satan and this can make our Christian walk feel burdensome. This is not what God desires for us. Instead, we should view the truth of what God wants us to know from the Scriptures.

As we receive His love, and begin to know Him by reading His Word, we can then begin to have a greater understanding of all He has done for us. This in turn will prompt us to begin to walk worthy of our calling. We don’t do this out of obligation—we do it out of love because He first loved us.

We love Him because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19 (NKJV)

To Walk worthy of our calling, simply means to:

· Walk in unity (Eph. 4:1-16)

· Walk in purity (Eph. 4:17-5:18)

· Walk in harmony (Eph. 5:19-6:9)

· Walk in victory (Eph. 6:10-24)

I want to encourage you to meditate upon these truths today, and allow them to permeate your heart. As they do, watch and see how it impacts your heart to walk.

STUDY QUESTION: According to Ephesians 4:1, how does Paul ask us to live our lives?

PERSONAL INVENTORY:  Are you struggling in your Christian walk?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Take the time to read the first three chapters of Ephesians. Pray first and ask God to show you what He wants you to see.

PRAYER: Father, I can clearly see what You have done for me by reading Your word and I want to thank You. Use me today to be a light unto others. Empower me to be what You have called me to be. Show me how to walk worthy of Your calling upon my life…In Jesus’ name, amen…

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
