Created For a Specific Purpose

Everyone who is called by My name, Whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.” Isaiah 43:7 (NKJV)

Have you ever stopped to wonder what life is all about?  It’s a pretty vast question indeed.  The answers would vary depending on whom we asked, their age, family upbringing, personal views, social background, and a multitude of other factors.  But this too, would probably change a few years later if you asked the same person the same question, as their life will have changed to some degree giving them a slightly different paradigm.

Ok, for us as Christian’s let’s narrow the scope of this question by rephrasing it; what specifically did God create us for?

The answer to this question is simple – we were created for God’s Glory (Isa. 43:7).  Everything we do should be based upon bringing God honor and glory (1 Cor. 10:31).

So, what does it mean to bring Honor and Glory to God – how is God glorified by us?

· We bring God much glory and honor when we obey His commands (John 15).

· We bring God much glory and honor when we produce the fruit of God’s Holy Spirit in our life (John 15:8; Gal. 5:22-23).

· We bring God much glory and honor when we speak and act in a way He has taught us within His Word (John 15).

· We bring God much glory and honor when we place a greater value on His will rather than our own (Rom. 12:1-2).

· We bring God much glory and honor when we are truly thankful in all situations because we trust and believe He has a plan for everything (Prov. 3:5-6; Jer. 29:11).

· We bring God much glory and honor when we imitate Him by showing others the same love, mercy, and grace (unmerited favor) He showed us (John 13:34; 15:13-14; Eph. 5:1).

I believe it is imperative for us to know and remember; we have all been created by God to bring glory to Him in our own free will.  This will happen once we have an understanding of how much He loves us, and we have a desire to share this love with others.  We are not simply saved just to be saved—God desires to use every one of us for good works, and to bring Him glory.

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV)

STUDY QUESTION: According to the scriptures in this devotional, what were we created for?

PERSONAL INVENTORY:  Do you have a heart to bring glory to God in everything you do?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Seek God in prayer and tell Him you want to bring Him honor and glory.  Think about the things you are allowing yourself to think upon, as well as the attitude and actions that follow.  If they are not bringing God glory, then turn from them and replace them with thoughts, attitudes and actions that do.

PRAYER: Father, thank You for allowing me to be used in ways that bring You honor and glory.  Help me to see Your truth and to be empowered to walk in it faithfully.  Allow others to see You in me today.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
