It is Possible With God
3/21/2016

“The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” Luke 18:27 (NKJV)

Throughout Jesus’ earthly ministry He performed mighty miracles—we know—

·      He turned water into wine at a wedding in Cana (John 2:1-12).

·      He cleansed leprosy (Matthew 8:1-4; Luke 17:11-19).

·      He restored the sight of the blind (Mark 8:22-26; John 9:27-31).

·      He healed those who were crippled (Luke 13:10-17; John 9:1-8).

·      He drove out demons (Mark 5:1-20; John 4:31-36).

·      He restored the ability to speak to the mute (Matthew 9:32-34; 12:22-23).

·      He restored the ability to hear to the deaf (Mark 7:31-37).

·      He calmed the raging seas, and commanded the winds to stop (Luke 4:35-41).

But of all the miracles Jesus performed I think the one most talked about was when He raised Lazarus from the dead. Martha and Mary had sent word to Jesus that Lazarus was in bad shape. Jesus decided to wait two days before making his way to see His friend, and by the time He arrived He found Lazarus had already been in the tomb four days (John 11:17).

Jesus loved Lazarus, and He could have been there sooner if He chose to. And if He wanted, He simply could have spoken the word and Lazarus would have been healed, but He didn’t.  He waited until Lazarus lay dead for four days before arriving there. So why would Jesus delay coming if He truly cared for Mary, Martha, and Lazarus?

I believe He did it out of His great love for them, and for us as well. Jesus wanted to strengthen the faith of His disciples who were walking with Him, and of every person who would ultimately follow Him. I also believe it was to teach each of us that what is impossible with man is possible with God.  I think this should bring us great peace, especially when we are facing giants, and finding ourselves overwhelmed with impossibilities.

I want to encourage you to think and pray upon these things today.

STUDY QUESTION: According to Jesus’ words, as recorded in Luke 18:27, what can we learn about those things we find to be impossible?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Do you believe that all things are possible through God?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Guard yourself from placing restrictions upon God’s abilities and instead, choose to place your faith in Him, and believe that all things are possible through Him.

MAKE THIS YOUR PRAYER TODAY: Father, thank You for reminding me that all things are possible through You. I am sorry for those times I have doubted, and lacked faith. Fill me afresh with Your Spirit today. In Jesus’ precious name, amen…

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
