Where God Guides He Provides

Help us, O God of our salvation, For the glory of Your name; And deliver us, and provide atonement for our sins, For Your name’s sake! Psa. 79:9 (NKJV)

Chances are you’ve heard the saying, “Where God guides, He provides.”  We can find confidence in this truth, as we see great examples woven throughout Scriptures, in both the Old & New Testaments.  For example, in the book of Deuteronomy, we can see Moses speaking to the Israelites saying, “The LORD your God has blessed everything you have done and has watched your every step through this great wilderness. During these forty years, the LORD your God has been with you and provided for your every need so that you lacked nothing" (Deuteronomy 2:7).  So clearly, God guided their every step, and He also provided for their needs.

And in the book of Matthew we can see Jesus sending out His disciples to share the truth about God, saying, “And as you go, preach, saying, the kingdom of heaven is at hand.  Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons.  Freely you have received, freely give.  Provide neither gold nor silver nor copper in your money belts, nor bag for your journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor staffs; for a worker is worthy of his food” (Matthew 10:7-10).  Again, the principle of God’s guidance and provision were absolutely foundational to His calling upon their lives.

As followers of Jesus Christ, God has called each of us to do the work of the ministry as well.  And like David, I believe we would be wise and responsible to seek the Lord in prayer, asking Him, “Show me Your ways O Lord; teach me Your paths.  Lead me in Your truth and teach me” (Psalm 25:4).  After all, if we are to preach the kingdom of God and heal the sick, shouldn’t we seek our Lord for His guidance and provision?

God ultimately guides and empowers us through the truth of His word (cf. Hebrews 4:12).  It is through the pages of Scripture we are able to prove (discern) His good, acceptable, and perfect will for our lives (Romans 12:2).  We know this because we are told all Scripture has been given so the man (and woman) of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:17).   And we have been given a promise from God that He will give us great wisdom to use the knowledge we have gleaned from His word, if we simply ask Him (James. 1:5).

As God’s children, we have been given the great commission of making disciples of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19-20), by sharing the gospel message with them (1 Corinthians 15:1-4).  As we are faithful to do this we can be assured there will be people who will ultimately be healed, as they are raised to life from spiritual death (Romans 10:9-10).  There will be many fellow believers who will be healed in their spiritual walk, as we share the truth of God’s word in their time of need.  And there will be some who are even healed physically according to God’s will (1 John 5:14-15) as we are obedient to God’s leading of us to use the gift of healing (1 Corinthians 12:9).

God knows and cares about every detail of our lives, and as such, He has a perfect plan for each of us (Jeremiah 29:11).  He wants to empower us with every gifting needed to do His mighty works, and to represent Him through how we live. Our understanding, believing, and trusting in Him, will enable us to have faith in His guidance through every situation we face, and for His provision for every good gifting needed to accomplish what He has called us to do.  Our part is to trust in Him and His promises, and then to obey them.

I want to encourage you to think and pray upon these truths today.
