God Is In The Details

Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will.  But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. Matthew 10:29-31 (NKJV)

Have you ever heard the phrase, “The devil is in the details”?  I can see how this phrase could be very true as Satan and his emissaries are tempting us in just about every aspect of our lives – trying to get us to stumble, and perhaps causing others to stumble as a result of our actions.

Remind them of these things, charging them before the Lord not to strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers. 2 Timothy 2:14 (NKJV)

The funny thing about this phrase is it is actually derived from an earlier idiom, “God is in the details.”  When a person says, “The devil is in the details,” they are simply saying those small things in our plans that we often overlook can cause serious problems and issues later on.

Q:         What can we glean from this as Christian men and women?

We should make it our goal to be thorough in everything we put our hand to (1 Cor. 10:31).  When we do a job we should give it our all and pay attention to every detail.  Some might say, “I disagree, I don’t sweat the small stuff.”  I would respond to this by saying, “There is a difference in sweating, worrying or fighting over the “small” details and simply committing them unto the Lord and taking the time to do the best job possible.”

We need only look to our Bibles to see how God views details.  In the Book of Matthew we can see how every detail is important to God — He says not one sparrow will fall to the ground apart from His will, and He has even numbered every hair on our head.  In the book of Leviticus we can see God’s intricate details for how His people were to worship Him.  He also gave them specific details for various sin offerings so they would be able to be forgiven.  We can also see how God gave clear, detailed instructions for living a Holy life — separated from the life of sin, and set apart, dedicated to Him.

The next time you are tempted by Satan and his emissaries, remember “God is in the details,” and He has a perfect plan to guide you through every temptation.

I want to encourage you today to think and pray upon these things.  Let’s give attention to the details of what God has clearly outlined for a holy life.  Let’s not fuss and fight over insignificant details and cause division.  Let’s decide to be wholly (or Holy) surrendered to doing everything God’s way.

STUDY QUESTION: According to 2 Timothy 2:14 what can we learn about arguing over unimportant details.

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you willing to allow the details of God’s Word to guide your life?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Let’s make it our goal to live a righteous life according to God’s detailed outline within His Word.  Let’s also be committed to not being involved in arguments over insignificant details.

LET’S MAKE THIS OUR PRAYER TODAY: Father, thank You for showing us how You are in the details.  Thank You for showing us how the enemy attempts to use details as well.  Help us to keep a proper balance in paying attention to the details so we can be Holy and sanctified for Your ministry.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
