A Guide To The Blind

A Guide To The Blind
Are You Willing To Help Others Who Cannot See

"Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into the ditch?" Luke 6:39 (NKJV)

We've all heard the statement, "Pride goes before the fall," and it couldn't be truer for those who refuse to seek wise direction for their lives, especially when it comes to knowing God.  Many people believe they know the path to heaven but never really think about their own personal relationship with Jesus, and as a result the path they are choosing is actually the wide and destructive one.  We can see Jesus speaking of this in the Book of Matthew.

"Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.  Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'" Matthew 7:21-23 (NKJV)

Have you ever thought of yourself as a guide to the blind?  I'm not talking about those who are physically blind, but of those who are spiritually blind.  As Christian men and women we are all to be guides to those who are blinded to the truth.   Ultimately it is God who removes the scales from their eyes and the veil covering their hearts and minds, but we are the tools He uses to show others the way.  Unfortunately there are many people who are too prideful to ask for directions and they insist on their way being proper.

Q:    So how can we lead others to know the Lord if they are too prideful to ask?

The best way to lead others to know Jesus is for us to live like Jesus lived.  That's right, you see people are continually watching other people in an effort to learn and glean from them.   So when we choose to live in a way pleasing and honoring to God then they see this and are drawn to Him by following our lead.

I have found a healthy Christian lifestyle to be one of the best tools for witnessing and sharing the gospel message with those who are lost.  In time God will provide the opportunity for sharing our testimony with them and we can then share some biblical truths about Jesus and eternal life.

We must be careful ourselves not to be blinded by the lies of the enemy.  For example there have been many times where I have been given a chance to share the love of Jesus with someone but I have chosen not to do it.  I have reasoned to myself I will do it another time, but another time never happened, and the opportunity no longer existed.  I know God is faithful and someone else was given the opportunity to speak to them, but I had lost my chance and blessing to be used as a vessel of honor by my Lord.

I want to encourage you today, seek the Lord in prayer, asking Him for an opportunity to guide someone to know Him.  Make it your goal to live Christ in every way.  Others will see Him in you and will be drawn in the right directions.  Try it and see.

STUDY QUESTION: According to Matthew 7:21-23 what can we learn about our having a relationship with Jesus?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you willing to be a guide to those who are spiritually blind today?

APPLICATION: Seek the Lord each day and ask Him to use you to guide others.  Read your Bible and be ready to guide others to the truth and to Jesus.

Father, thank You for bringing others to guide me to You.  Thank You for giving me Your truth in Your Word.  Help me today to guide others to know You and to seek the truth as contained in Your Word.  In Jesus' precious name, amen...

Be blessed, Pastor Scott
