It's Not About What--It's About How

Its Not Really About What--Its About How.
If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. 1Peter 4:11 (NIV)
What do you do for a living? Are you a policeman, a fireman, or possibly a teacher? Are you doing high tech engineering for the space industry, or perhaps your talent lies in construction? I guess a more important question than what, is probably how. How do you do whatever it is that you do?
Can you say with confidence that God is praised by the way you do your job? Is Jesus glorified by the way you treat and serve others?
We are told in Romans chapter 12, that we have been given different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a we have been given the gift of serving, then we should serve; if it is teaching, then we should teach; if we have been given the gift of encouraging others, then that is what we should do, and if it is contributing to the needs of others, then we should give generously.
But there is one job that each and every Christian has in common, and that is the job of ministry. Im not speaking about every one of us being a Pastor of a congregation; Im speaking about each of us being called to minister to others. It has been a long-standing misconception in church practice, that only one person is to minister in the local church, which is the body of believers. But the biblical principle is that each and every one of us can and should minister in various ways. God has given each of us unique and diverse gifts for a reason, and that is to apply these gifts in serving others in love, as if you were serving the Lord Himself.
The Holy Spirit can take our natural talents and abilities and redirect them for Christ. And it is His empowering of our abilities through the gifts that have been given to us, that shows others how real and glorious God is. This is our witness, and it is our testimony before those we serve.
As Christians, we must be dependent upon Gods power when serving others, because in doing this, we dont burn out, nor do we seek the glory for the good that we have done. Instead, we understand that the exclusive purpose of our loving Christian service to others is that through Jesus Christ, God will be glorified. And God is glorified when we genuinely serve others in love, because people will praise Him for His grace that comes to them through Jesus, and through us as His followers.
Another benefit that we as Christians can derive from serving others in the power of God is that we do not have to continue to strive for that perfection that so often happens to those walking after the flesh. What I mean is simply this. Give whomever you serve, or whatever jobs youre doing your very best effort, and then commit the rest to God. You will find that you have a great peace that you would otherwise not have. You wont get caught up worrying like those who suffer from being a perfectionist do. You wont go home saying, Why didnt I say this? Why didnt I do that? Did I do the right thing? Youll just let it go, knowing that you have done your best.
Hey Christian, its not really about what you do, its about how you do it. Let me encourage you today to do it unto the Lord, and allow Him to guide you and empower you in everything you say and do for others. May it glorify His mighty name, and may it draw others to the kingdom by the grace that He is displaying through you unto them.
